The AFV&A is delighted to be supporting the refurbishment of the Raphael Court in 2020, a landmark project coinciding with the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death. The Raphael Cartoons are among the greatest treasures of the High Renaissance and have been on loan to the V&A from the Royal Collection since 1865. As part of the project specialist conservators will assess the Cartoons to ensure their preservation for future generations. New research will also provide the foundations for innovative interpretation and an exciting digital experience. The Raphael Court will be refurbished by award-winning practice Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and innovative new lighting will increase the visibility of the works.
The refurbishment of The Raphael Court is supported by Lydia and Manfred Gorvy, Julia and Hans Rausing, American Express, the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, The Hintze Family Charitable Foundation, the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation, the American Friends of the V&A, and many other generous donors.
